Bollywood Profile of Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar, who is originally called Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, is born on 7 Sep. His family consists of his dad, mom and one sis and he is called RAJ at home and AKKI by his close mates. Though his filmi career is not upto the mark, he is widely known as Khiladi Kmar in the Bollywood for the kind of man that he is, for his life style, for his affairs with a lot of career girls almost in a way to break up in the end. His success is the result of a combination of factors, but emoting in front of the camera isn't one of them. What is unusual about Akshay Kumar is that, unlike many other stars, he was not launched by a godfather, nor did he come from a film family. His entry into films was through the back door, through B-grade and C-grade films that were flooding the industry at that time. His first film, 'Saugandh' was with the not-so-hot south siren, Shanti Priya. Fortunately for the hero, who was considered to be a bad actor, he survived the test because of his dances and his stunts.

Akshay Kumar had set his sight on the big bad world of films while still in college. In the meantime, Akshay moved to Bangkok and ran a food stall for a while. He came back to Bombay at the turn of the decade and finally got his first film with Raj Sippy's 'Sangharsh (1991). He studied martial arts in Hong Kong and was sometimes referred to as the "Bruce Lee of India".
Although he perfectly knows for himself that he is not a great actor which he once confessed to the world. And may be that's why he wants to get the attention of the world in the other way. But AKSHAY KHILADI KUMAR has 55 films in his bag to date and has had sort of a relation with all the heroines cast opposite him thus establishing the phenomenon that his every fifth movie is worth either named or having a tag - KHILADI.

At 6'1", he looks handsome and keeps himself fit with a healthy stature but apart from his so called incapabilities in acting, he strives much harder in order to prove his mettle through a lot of hard work and determination. He rather seems to be lot more career - - oriented than the rest of the stars, the cause behind the effect being his flops at the box office.
His first love was, is and will always be martial arts. And through his films, he hopes to promote the art and is also contemplating a school for martial arts training. "I am so busy these days, I don't have time to teach martial arts but in another two to three years' time, I will open a martial arts school where I will teach people what I learnt in Thailand," he says determinedly.
He hurt his back while lifting a 350-pound wrestler (Brian Lee, known in the movie as The Undertaker), in the film Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi.

He is a big fan of Chinese martial artist and film star Jackie Chan.

Akshay Kumar is the first Indian actor to have been given a four-film-deal with Adlabs company.
His first big hits were mostly action films such as the Khiladi series, Mohra (1994) etc. He has also had success in romantic movies such as Yeh Dillagi (1994), Dhadkan (2000) and Andaaz (2003) .

In 2000 he starred in the comedy film Hera Pheri which was a huge hit. After that he did many successful comedies which include Awara Paagal Deewana (2002), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and Garam Masala (2005).

Apart from his action and comedy roles he has done various dramatic roles in films such as Ek Rishta (2001), Bewafaa (2005) and Waqt: The Race Against Time (2005).

Most recently in June 2006, his release was Phir Hera Pheri, the sequel to Hera Pheri (2000) which has also been very successful at the box office.

In October 2006 his big release was Jaan-E-Mann which has not done as well as expected at the box office but he has got positive reviews from critics for his performance.

He is also in the television ad for the Xbox 360 in India with Yuvraj Singh.

He has been romantically linked to a few of his female co-stars, including Pooja Batra, Raveena Tandon, Rekha, Shilpa Shetty, Priyanka Chopra, and most recently Lara Dutta who is his female co-star in his upcoming film Bhagam Bhag. After being engaged to actress Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of veteran actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, they finally married in January 14, 2001. Their son named Araav was born in September 15, 2002.
