'Dexter' showrunner explains shocking finale, season 8 plans
dexter
Showtime’s re-energized seventh season of Dexter delivered a finale twist that’s arguably the most disturbing moment of the series: Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) murdered Miami Metro police captain María LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) to protect her serial killer brother (Michael C. Hall). How will her decision impact next season? Will Yvonne Strahovski return? And will the show really end next year?
Below, showrunner Scott Buck takes our burning questions.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Dexter is a serial killer and even he was struggling with the idea of killing LaGuerta. How did Debra, whose value system is so different than Dexter’s, make that jump?
Scott Buck: I think she was under extreme duress at that moment. Dexter is the master manipulator, and it’s left up the to viewers how they want to interpret things, but Dexter was very much in control of the situation.

By saying that, are you hinting he expected her to show up?Buck: No, I don’t think he was expecting his sister to show up at all. But when it finally came down to it, I think he handled it in the smartest possible way.

Was Debra always going to kill LaGuerta, or did you consider another outcome? And what was Jennifer’s reaction?
Buck: From the beginning of the season this was always how it would end. She knew very early on this was where it was going, she was excited and terrified to take Debra down this road.

Does killing LaGuerta really make that warrant [for Dex and Deb's incriminating cell phone records] disappear? Isn’t that sort of hanging out there for investigators to find?

Buck: The warrants are still sitting on LaGuerta’s desk so they have not been filed. So there is no record of a warrant at this point.

And another question fans were wondering: Are you going to address the fact that Debra uses her own gun to kill LaGuerta?
Buck: That will be addressed. We’re also dealing with Dexter here who’s not only the person planting the evidence but will also be the forensic expert collecting the evidence on the other end.

You also brought back Sgt. Doakes in flashbacks. Can you talk about the decision to have him return?

Buck: I was a huge fan of Erik King. I always thought he brought so much fun and energy to the show. We always talked about a way to bring him back, but we didn’t want to do it arbitrarily. Since we were telling the end to LaGuerta’s story it felt very organic to bring Doakes back.

Will he appear in more flashbacks next season?
Buck: We haven’t discussed that yet.

You’ve said next season will explore “where Dexter started,” can you elaborate on that?
Buck: I think we’re all aware of Dexter’s origins, born in blood in that trailer. But I don’t think we’ve full explored the whole story and next season we’ll learn there was more to it than we’ve discovered. There’s more things that Dexter has not yet discovered about how he came to be who he is.

Angel Batista (David Zayas) is retiring, but I’m assuming he’ll have a role?
Buck: He announced his retirement. The finale took place just before he filed his papers. The situation has suddenly changed a great deal.

Hannah (Strahovski) wasn’t killed off, which surprised me since usually guest stars tend to only last one season on the show. Will she be back next season?
Buck: I certainly hope so, yes. I can’t elaborate because we’re just at the beginning of figuring out next season and deals have not been made yet. But I’m very interested in having Hannah back.

At this point, Dexter is really less a vigilante killer and more of a murderer covering his tracks. Are you deliberately taking his character that direction?

Buck: I think LaGuerta was a very different kill than any Dexter has done before. Obviously it wasn’t him who killed LaGuerta but I think he’s as responsible as anyone. Yes, it was done very deliberately. I know a lot of viewers see Dexter as almost a superhero. We wanted make sure everyone was aware that at his core he’s a serial killer with a code. He’s evolved a great deal over the years from someone who was a lizard brain psychopath the first season who was very good at playing the game. But as he’s become more human the risks have become much greater. That’s something we’re trying to explore this year and into the next season.

Is there a concern that viewers will no longer sympathize with him and Debra? Or are we supposed to be turning on him in the home stretch?
Buck: I don’t think we’re supposed to be turning on him, necessarily, but I think we want people to understand him a bit better. The more human he becomes the more responsible he becomes for what he’s done and that’s something we’re not trying to shy away from. It makes the character more interesting and complex and even more culpable.

In terms of Deb’s romantic feelings for Dexter, you dealt with those feelings head-on part-way through the season. What are Debra’s feelings for Dexter now that she’s killed LaGuerta?
Buck: She’s so overwhelmed by everything I don’t think she can even process what she’s thinking. But she’s going to be in a very different place than we’ve ever seen her before next season. I think she’ll always love Dexter in her own way but I don’t know she’ll continue to harbor romantic feelings for him.

Will LaGuerta’s death bring them closer together or drive them further apart?
Buck: A little of both. It bonds them in a unique way, but it’s a very tragic way. They will always have that connection but it’s not necessarily the most positive way of being bond to someone.

Will there be a Big Bad villain next season? Do you even need one given all the drama you’ve set up among the main characters?
Buck: It will be a different incarnation of that sort of character. We’re not thinking of it in terms of a Big Bad. But there will be people for Dexter to go up against.

But it won’t be another serial criminal that police are tracking at the same time?

Buck: It won’t be the traditional Big Bad, no.

Next season has been called a likely final season. Is that still the case? What conversations have you had with the network about that?
Buck: That’s a Showtime decision and I’m not aware a final decision has been made. But we’re approaching the season as if it’s a final season. If we’re told otherwise, we’ll redirect.

So terms of the story, you’re taking it toward a satisfying series conclusion next year and not a cliffhanger?
Buck: Absolutely.

Do you have a clear ending scene in mind?
Buck: Yes, absolutely. We’ve always had various was to end the show and they were always quite similar. It was more a matter of landing on exactly how we want to end this and that’s the direction we’re moving right now.

Is there a chance of this show having a happy ending?
Buck: A serial killer story can only end so many ways and none of them are particularly happy.

* It was confirmed months ago Yvonne was contracted to appear in the final season subject to financial negotiation and script changes. Now it seems like the Aussie could be demanding a pay-hike and this is where leverage can be applied on Yvonne to really get naked. No more cock teasing nonsense.

It's hardly surprising that students are turning to the sex trade

A man allegedly behind the Sponsor a Scholar website, which is said to offer tuition fees in return for sex, has been arrested, but Dr Brooke Magnanti doubts the sorry mess is a prostitution ring.

Scottish-born madam Anna Gristina charged with running multi-million dollar Manhattan prostitution ring
'Interestingly the whole mess has been reported as if this is some sort of prostitution ring. As far as I can tell from the reports, it's not.'

With the end of the week comes news that a person allegedly behind the notorious Sponsor a Scholar website has been arrested.

Mark Lancaster, who was released on police bail, has been arrested on suspicion of inciting prostitution. It is claimed that he set up a website for female students looking to have sex with men who would pay their fees. As part of the site's process, this apparently entailed an unpaid "practical" session with an "assessor" to determine the young woman's intimacy quotient.

Reportedly a few women didn't decline this request, but also didn't find themselves introduced to any rich sugar daddies, either.

As someone who reached the end of her studies with - shall we say - more erotic capital than liquid assets, I'm unsurprised that students would consider the sex trade to meet their expenses. The tuition fees for home students in England and Wales are now almost at the level of what they were for overseas students like me when I started studying.

With a lot of bills to settle but not a lot of free time, you'd be bonkers to imagine a couple of shifts at the local hostelry could even begin to touch the sides of the yawning chasm of student debt.

In the last few years, not only have the number of students in erotic entertainment become more visible, there has also been a corresponding rise in the coverage of people seeking arrangements. Sugar babies and sugar daddies, while there is obviously money and sex involved, are often quick to deny it's prostitution. But you can't deny that a transaction is definitely taking place.

Interestingly, the whole Sponsor a Scholar mess has been reported as if this is some sort of prostitution ring. As far as I can tell from the reports, it's not. No money appears to have been promised for the sex acts that took place and no money seems to have actually changed hands. It seems instead that whoever was "assessing" the female students was a common-or-garden con artist and not a pimp at all.

Whatever the outcome of the Sponsor A Scholar brouhaha, one thing's for certain: this is a ruse that may have worked for one guy, but smart money says it won't work again. Girls who had sex for free - well, I don't see how they can possibly prosecute anyone for 'inciting prostitution' in the circumstances - must be kicking themselves.

Take it from a real pro… the assumption that agencies hold "auditions" of sexual skills in potential escorts is right up there with the myth of "fluffers" in porn. They may make for titillating media coverage, but they really do not exist.

Cash up front is the name of the game where real sex work is concerned. If you aren't prepared to say "show me the money" before getting down and dirty, then maybe it's better to take a loan instead.

Inside the Box - Banner

The production team of Inside the Box send us a Holiday gift, the signed screenplay of the short film, written by David Martin-Porras, to thank us "for all your help and support". Twenty lucky fans will receive a signed screenplay as a reward for their donation to support the movie.
The screenplay includes the signature of the author, David, and the three stars : Wilson Bethel (Matt, the Texan cop), Summer Glau (Sofia, Matt's wife) et Regina King (Stephanie, the District Attorney). Learn more about the cast in a Blogpost.
Here's the signed cover; can you tell at first sight which one is Summer's signature? Check it on the signed pictures (with a note from Summer) that Fermi received a few weeks ago.
Signed screenplay
The thank-you letter that came with the signed screenplay says :
Our secrets and our survival instincts are some of our most human features, and they manifest themselves in ways we could never imagine. This is what Inside the Box is about.

[...]

Three actors whose riveting performances will, undoubtedly, position this short film among the best of the year.
For obvious reasons of copyright and in order to preserve the suspense, we won't publish any part of the screenplay. That said, reading through the pages of the screenplay confirmed the impression we had when watching the intense trailer; suspense and twists lovers are in for a treat when the short will be released (on DVD and VOD on February 2013).

Inside the Box is a great way to showcase Summer Glau's talents well in a dramatic role and will help Summer get recognition.

It's a good thing that David is stretching the boundaries of what Summer should or should not play, even if it might surprises fans at first. I think I join with all fans of Summer Glau in saying that we're all excited to watch Inside the Box.

Tell us what is more exciting, seeing Summer Glau in intense scenes or discovering what's inside the box, or both?

* Don't want to get anyone hopes up but the director is David Martin-Porras - the guy responsible for cajoling Sophie Auster (almost a doppelganger of Summer Glau) to show her tits in Stealing Summers (2011).

Sexy Japanese Model Mitsu Dan Promotes “Safe House” DVD by Sticking it in Her Panties

Dec 26, 2012 by
187c7cfdOn December 17, Japanese model Mitsu Dan (壇蜜) appeared at the Hotel Ibis in Roppongi, Tokyo to promote the DVD and Blu-Ray release of the 2012 American action film “Safe House”, known as “Dangerous Run” in Japan.
After taking the stage wearing nothing but black boots, a narrow tube-top bra, and a mini skirt pulled down to reveal a skimpy black thong, Dan proceeded to “promote” the movie by rubbing lead actors Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds all over her breasts and crotch.
We mean the box art image, of course.
Dan’s appearance seemed to have little to do with the actual film, but photos of her posing seductively with a DVD wedged in her panties understandably spread across the Japanese internet soon after, bringing the event far more attention that it would have likely received otherwise. 098510180_121217danmitsu15_123_427loShameless? Yes. Effective? Even more so.
During the press event, Dan referred to herself as “Dangerous Dan” and answered a number of “dangerously” revealing questions about herself.
For example, when asked which of the two lead actors she would rather date, she pensively replied, “I’d like to make out with Ryan Reynolds while being spanked by Denzel Washington.”
Check the video below to see the interview in full. While the video is Japanese language only, we think viewers of all linguistic backgrounds can appreciate the rapid crescendo of shutter clicks that occurs shortly after 4:15.

Incidentally, the film was rated PG-12 when it was released in Japan earlier this year. We have the feeling this press event would have a difficult time securing anything lower than R.
See more photos of Mitsu Dan promoting her own “Safe House” in the gallery below.
