Shinjuku shopping Marui one

A lolita friend of mine from Holland, Danchelle arrived today in Shinjuku,

so of course we had to go shopping right away!

Any lolita girl has to visit Marui One in Shinjuku.

This department store is filled with gothic, lolita and punk brands.

My favorites are, Metamorphose and Angelic Pretty.

Angelic Pretty has a super cute interior. It is like a girls dream!

Gothic lolita shop Metamorphose in Kyoto

I went to the gothic lolita shop Metamorphose in Kyoto, to see their new collection.
It was a good way for me to decide what I should order for my shop in The Netherlands.

Normally you are not allowed to take pictures or video inside the lolita stores,
but they wanted to show the Metamorphose fans how their shop looks like trough me.

TV appearance, magazine shoot and lolita market

Another busy week has come to an end for me and tomorrow a whole new adventure will start!
Tomorrow I leave for Japan!!!!

I was so happy that a lot of lolita's came to visit the market!!

HYDE (Hee-day) is a pretty huge name in the J-Rock scene and he's just released a new Halloween song - Halloween Party!

Great costumes and fun vid overall! I like how they're channeling a bit of 'Nightmare Before Christmas' meets their unique Japanese style.

Crazy! - Pamyu Pamyu's Fashion Monster Music Video!

I saw a Japanese friend stuck this up on her facebook and was curious. It's SO AWESOME I can't even describe it. This would definitely be a fun one to cosplay if you get a team together. I love how everything in Japan is just cute. Even Halloween stuff.




Pamyu Pamyu is quite a famous pop idol in Japan at the moment known for her extremely surreal music videos and cutesy vocals (see Pon Pon Pon below)

Upcoming Con - Tokyo Game Show - Sept 22-23

This weekend in Tokyo is the big scale game con, the Tokyo Game Show. Lots of game showcases, demos, cosplayers and more! Note to cosplayers though - no skin exposing and no weapons!

In summary

1. No civil service uniforms eg - police, military, cops, doctor coats etc.

2. No skimpy outfits - cover up EVERYTHING.

3. No controversial outfits - nazi stuff, racially sensitive stuff

4. No bulky outfits and stuff that inconveniences other people - no makeup that rubs on to others, bulky wings etc.

5. No long props that is over 50cm or more

6. No arms, guns, swords, chains

7. No props that have projectiles or can inflict damage on property - yoyos, rollerskates etc

8. No liquor, fuel, noisy items - cause you'll just be an annoyance to everyone and its dangerous.

So generally, I think its going to be ultra conservative in terms of cosplay but hey, rules are rules.

Photographing cosplayers IN JAPAN - How to not get yourself in trouble

I was fortunate enough to go to Winter Comiket in December 2 years ago and was quite surprised to hear from my brother that they do not allow video recording of any kind at such events because privacy, to Japanese people, is very important.

Rocket News, a popular Japanese culture website, reports the things you can and can't do when you're taking photos of cosplayers in Japan

In summary of the article

1. Take photos. DO NOT VIDEO ANYONE

2. COSPLAYERS ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL MODELS. You can't direct them and ask them to pose a certain way etc. (unless you specifically paid them for photo shoots etc.)

3. Some events you need PERMITS before you're allowed to take photos of cosplayers

4. Please ask before you take someone's photo (But of course there will be lots of latcher ons who don't do this.)

5. Don't be a TIME ROBBER. Take the photo, or a couple and move on

here's an extra one I'm going to add in

6. Please don't take pictures of cosplayers ON THEIR SMOKE BREAK. (it's funny but its out of character and not fitting)

And of course there's the please ask before you upload photos online but if you're a foreigner then I guess you won't really need to ask them.

12-11-2011 Visiting NHK Cool Japan TV studio

This blog is in memory of Tatsuyuki san.

So this blog post is super duper late!

The reason why is, first I already was late and when I wanted to write about this day I found out 

that one of the producers passed away, so I felt too sad to write about the memory of him.

So this part should be in my travel blog, but since it is also about NHK I'll just post it on both

So I was invited to visit and see the making of a episode of  the 

Japanese TV show Cool Japan that is being broad casted on NHK World.

The reason is because in the past I have made two videos for them, 

so they wanted to meet me in person.

The huge building of NHK is in Shibuya, 

so when we walked to the location we first got some Takoyaki for lunch.

Once we got to the entrance of the building my contact person Tatsuyuki 

already was waiting for us and he guided us into the huge building!

It felt like walking into a never ending maze.

Once we arrived in the part that is used for making Cool Japan

he introduced us to the guests who would be in today's episode.

 Of course I wanted a picture together with the two TV hosts of the show.

While I stayed in the studio to watch the episode being made my boyfriend Hennie

went up to the control room.

It was a pleasure to meet everyone and see how they work.

After visiting the studio we went for dinner.

Cat ears hair style and make-up tutorial

One of the new trends in Japan is hair like cat ears.

It is a super cute and easy style!

Normally I am not a big fan of cat ears because they are considered

to be a part of cosplay.

Cosplay and lolita don't work together so that is why I have never worn cat ears before.

I think this is a very subtle look and also could work with a lolita outfit,

but I think you do at least must have something with a cat print on it with you,

so maybe a bag, necklace or dress.
But outside lolita it can go with any look!

Gyaru fashion picnic

A week ago I went with some friends to the Dutch Gyaru picnic.

Also other Japanese fashion styles were welcome, so that was very nice.

If you are not know with Gyaru here is a small explanation.
So what is Gyaru? 

Gyaru is a fashion style targeting girls and boys in the ages from 16 to mid twenties.

It is a look that is over the top girly and everything has to be perfect.

A lot of attention is paid to hair, body, fashion and face and a lot of tools are used to enhance beauty.

Wigs, Make-up, fake eyelashes and even colored contact lenses.

Within Gyaru there are a lot of different styles, but I'll try to explain those a different time.

I took some pictures of the girls who were my personal favorites.

I think it is because I love the brand Liz Lisa and they all are dressed in this brands style,

although they don't actually all wear the brand.

I wore a outfit inspired by the looks I have seen in the Japanese

magazine Popteen.

Loose fashion have been very popular in Japan and I wanted to try

it because it looks so comfortable.
